Wij ontvingen het intens verdrietige bericht van het onverwachte overlijden van Kamal Tahtahi.
Kamal was tussen 1997 en 2018 een vaste waarde van het Nederlands Powerchair Hockey Team en jarenlang de trotse aanvoerder van Oranje. Hij behoorde tot de absolute grootheden van onze sport en heeft als speler, leider en mens een onuitwisbare indruk achtergelaten.
Met zijn uitzonderlijke spelinzicht, technische kwaliteiten en natuurlijke leiderschap stond Kamal aan de basis van een uiterst succesvolle periode in de geschiedenis van het Nederlandse Powerchair Hockey. Hij leverde een essentiële bijdrage aan de ontwikkeling van de sport en aan de vele internationale titels die Nederland in die jaren behaalde.
Maar Kamal was veel meer dan een topspeler. Hij was een inspirator, een verbinder en een rolmodel voor talloze jonge spelers, niet alleen in Nederland, maar over de hele wereld. Hij liet zien dat topsport hand in hand kan gaan met bescheidenheid, respect en sportiviteit.
Binnen en buiten het veld was Kamal een echte gentleman. Zijn aanwezigheid bracht rust, vertrouwen en positiviteit. Met zijn warme persoonlijkheid, scherpe inzichten en oprechte interesse in anderen wist hij mensen te raken en te verbinden.
Met het overlijden van Kamal verliest de internationale Powerchair Hockey-gemeenschap een van haar meest gerespecteerde en geliefde ambassadeurs.
Wij zijn Kamal dankbaar voor alles wat hij voor onze sport heeft betekend. Zijn nalatenschap leeft voort in de sport die hij mede heeft gevormd en in de vele spelers die door hem zijn geïnspireerd.
Onze gedachten gaan uit naar Maud, zijn zoon Sami en alle overige familieleden, vrienden en dierbaren. Wij wensen hen heel veel sterkte, liefde en kracht toe in deze moeilijke en verdrietige tijd.
Rust zacht, Kamal.
Je zult altijd een bijzondere plaats behouden in de geschiedenis van het Nederlandse en internationale Powerchair Hockey.

In Memoriam – The GOAT of Powerchair Hockey: Kamal Tahtahi
We received the deeply saddening news of the unexpected passing of Kamal Tahtahi.
Kamal was a cornerstone of the Dutch National Powerchair Hockey Team from 1997 to 2018 and proudly served as captain of the Netherlands for many years. He was one of the true greats of our sport and left an indelible mark as a player, leader, and person.
With his exceptional game intelligence, technical skill, and natural leadership, Kamal played a pivotal role in one of the most successful periods in the history of Dutch Powerchair Hockey. He made an invaluable contribution to the development of the sport and to the many international titles the Netherlands achieved during those years.
But Kamal was much more than an outstanding athlete. He was an inspiration, a connector, and a role model for countless young players, not only in the Netherlands but around the world. He showed that elite sport can go hand in hand with humility, respect, and true sportsmanship.
On and off the court, Kamal was a true gentleman. His presence brought calm, confidence, and positivity. With his warm personality, sharp insights, and genuine interest in others, he had a remarkable ability to touch people’s lives and bring them together.
With Kamal’s passing, the international Powerchair Hockey community has lost one of its most respected and beloved ambassadors.
We are deeply grateful for everything Kamal has meant to our sport. His legacy lives on in the game he helped shape and in the many players he inspired.
Our thoughts are with Maud, his son Sami, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones. We wish them strength, love, and comfort during this incredibly difficult time.

You will always hold a special place in the history of Dutch and international Powerchair Hockey.
